Organization of farmers demands: Farmers in their wealth & gender categories together identify priority agriculture felt needs & decide on action to undertake.
Organizing service providers’ response to farmers’ needs: identifying and engaging service providers that would respond to farmers’ needs.
Stakeholders Coordination, collaboration and co-location: Service providers can support famers’ needs as an individual organization or in collaboration with other stakeholders.
Funding acquisition: district council will have to find ways of financing agricultural extension services from a diverse source of funds existing in the districts
The DAECC comprises all heads of agriculture technical departments (Crops, Extension, Land Resource, Livestock, Fisheries, Irrigation, Planning, Environment and Forestry) at the district level, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that provide agricultural extension and advisory services, micro-financing institutions, private sector, input suppliers and farmer organisations such as associations and cooperatives that operate at district level.
The Composition of the DSP comprises representatives of actors in the agricultural extension and advisory services including farmers operating in the district.
These are heads of agriculture technical departments (Land resource, Extension, Crops, Livestock, Irrigation, forestry, Fisheries and environment), representatives of smallholder food security farmers (who should form 50% of the total membership), semi-commercial and commercial farmers, Farmer Organisations (FOs), NGOs, agribusiness groups and community-based organisations.
The ASPs comprise of all actors in the agricultural sector operating under the respective Area Development Committee.
This includes staff from Ministry of Agriculture, NGOs, Smallholder, Semi-Commercial and Commercial Farmers, Farmers Organizations, agribusiness groups, community-based groups
VACs comprise of all actors in the agricultural sector operating under the respective Group Village Headman.
Includes staff from Ministry of Agriculture and NGOs, smallholder, Semi-Commercial & Commercial Farmers, Farmers’ Organizations, agribusiness groups, community-based groups and relevant committees of the Council such as Village Nutrition Coordinating Committee (VNCC) and Village Natural Resource Management Committee (VNRMC) Smallholder Farmers should form 50% of the total membership.
